Kornati National Park: The Lunar Labyrinth of the Adriatic
Kornati National Park is a charter location in North Dalmatia, a yacht charter area in Croatia.
Kornati National Park Charter Guide
The Kornati National Park is the absolute, undisputed crown jewel of raw, untouched Dalmatian wilderness. Comprising 89 densely clustered, stark white islands, islets, and reefs scattered across deep sapphire waters, this archipelago looks like a sun-bleached lunar landscape that has been partially submerged. Chartering through the Kornati is the ultimate expression of off-grid maritime isolation. There are no permanent residents, no sprawling marina complexes, and absolutely no commercial interference—only the howling of the wind, the cry of seagulls, and the mesmerizing, labyrinthine channels that demand to be explored.
A voyage here is for the yachting purist. It is a profound departure from the high-energy beach clubs of the mainland, focusing entirely on raw nature and profound silence. Your days will be spent navigating incredibly tight, cinematic passages between uninhabited reefs, dropping anchor in completely deserted coves to snorkel in some of the clearest, most highly protected marine reserves in the Mediterranean. By night, under skies completely devoid of light pollution, guests dine under the stars or tender ashore to one of the few isolated, generator-powered fisherman's taverns that serve absolute, zero-mile seafood.
Kornati National Park Navigation
Navigating the Kornati labyrinth is one of the most visually spectacular, yet highly demanding, pilotage experiences in Croatia. Captains must maintain absolute, unwavering vigilance. The waters are riddled with unmarked, submerged reefs and sheer rock walls that plunge dramatically into the depths. Strict adherence to updated nautical charts is mandatory, and sailing is highly regulated within the National Park boundaries, with strict speed limits to preserve the pristine, fragile marine ecosystem.

Kornati National Park Anchorage
There are no traditional luxury marinas within the National Park. Instead, yachts utilize designated, highly regulated anchorage zones or secure to mooring buoys provided by the park authority to protect the seabed. Vrulje is the largest bay, offering good protection and buoys, while the deeply indented Levrnaka bay provides a spectacular, secure overnight mooring just a short walk from the island's famous turquoise swimming cove.
Kornati National Park General Information
The stark, barren appearance of the Kornati islands is actually the result of centuries of deliberate, controlled burning by mainland shepherds to create fresh grazing pastures for their sheep. Crisscrossing the islands are hundreds of miles of suhozid, meticulously constructed dry-stone walls built entirely by hand to separate property lines and keep sheep from crossing into neighboring pastures, creating a striking geometric pattern across the hills.
Historically, the islands served as a brutal, highly isolated frontier. The ruins of the 6th-century Byzantine Tureta Fortress still stand proudly on the island of Kornat, historically used to monitor sea traffic and protect the lucrative salt trade routes. Today, a climb to this fortress rewards charter guests with an unparalleled, sweeping panoramic view over the entire 89-island archipelago.
