Lastovo: The Solitary Archipelago Under the Stars

Lastovo is the Adriatic's most remote, rugged, and enigmatic island. On the southern tip, Skrivena Luka (the "Hidden Port") offers profound peace and a stunning view of the Cape Struga lighthouse, perched dramatically on the cliffside. Lastovo is not about luxury resorts; it is about authentic, slow-food experiences, long afternoons of swimming in deserted lagoons, and nights spent in total silence, watching the Milky Way wheel above the mast.

Navigating to Lastovo is an adventure in itself, as it is exposed to the open sea. Captains must be prepared for the journey and check weather conditions carefully. Once within the Nature Park, navigation is safe and easy, with deep channels between the islets and well-protected harbors. The "Hidden Port" of Skrivena Luka is an exceptionally secure anchorage, even in challenging conditions.

Zaklopatica provides a mix of mooring buoys and quay space, with most restaurants offering free moorings for diners. Skrivena Luka is equally well-equipped with buoys and small pontoon docks. Throughout the rest of the archipelago, there are numerous natural bays where you can drop the hook in total isolation, surrounded by nothing but pine trees and blue water.

Lastovo is known for its unique, 15th-century "fumari"—extravagant, ornamental chimneys that were built to show off the wealth and status of the island's families. The main village of Lastovo sits high in the hills, away from the coast, offering a glimpse into a traditional, island-wide culture that remains proud, independent, and fiercely protective of its pristine environment.

For the active charterer, the island offers an extensive network of walking and cycling trails that traverse the hills and lead to hidden viewpoints. After a day of exploration, there is nothing quite like a meal of fresh, locally caught lobster or octopus in one of the harbor taverns, paired with a glass of the local wine, as you prepare for a night under the clearest stars in the Mediterranean.
